FAQs

Question: Where do I start?

Answer: You are in the right place. Browse the website to learn more about our Services and then Contact Us for a free 15 minute consultation. We can discuss what is motivating you to seek therapy, how therapy may help, the therapy process, and whether Dr. Duffing is the best fit for your needs.

Question: Can therapy help me?

Answer: Decades of research show that psychotherapy can help alleviate the symptoms associated with many conditions, including insomnia, depression, anxiety, panic, relationship distress, chronic stress, pain, and much more. Therapy can also help individuals and couples gain clarity surrounding their values, goals, daily purpose, and many other aspects of life that influence  mood and general well being. The success of therapy depends on numerous factors. These factors include a therapist using a therapeutic modality and interventions that have been shown to help improve the presenting problem. Dr. Duffing has training in numerous empirically-supported treatments and relies on her clinical expertise to develop an individualized treatment plan that incorporates these treatments and interventions. A client’s motivation level, engagement in session, and use of new skills outside of therapy will also influence the success of therapy. Dr. Duffing has witnessed many clients transform their lives and create lasting positive change. Contact Us if you are interested in discussing how psychotherapy can help you.

Question: How often will I need to see my therapist?

Answer: The answer to this question will depend on the presenting problem and the overall treatment goals. However, it is common for clients to commit to weekly sessions for the first 2-3 months.

Question: How long will I need therapy?

Answer: There are numerous factors that influence when therapy is terminated. In general, this occurs when the client and therapist agree that treatment goals have been met and/or that the symptoms have been resolved sufficiently.

Question: Is therapy confidential?

Answer: We take your privacy very seriously and are committed to keeping your information confidential in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). It is your right and my responsibility to maintain your confidentiality. With a few exceptions that will be discussed during the initial session, what is discussed in session is confidential and protected. Please see our Notice of Privacy Practices for further details. Dr. Duffing aims to create a safe environment where clients feel free to be honest, open, and express themselves in ways that may otherwise feel prohibitive.

Question: How do I pay for therapy?

Answer: Thriving Life Psychological Services, PLLC offers self-pay services and accepts cash, check, and credit cards. Please review Fees & Forms for specific fee details. Individuals wishing to use insurance benefits should check with their insurance carrier to see what mental health out-of-network benefits are available and what the reimbursement rate is for a “Licensed Clinical Psychologist.”

Question: How can I use my insurance benefits?

Answer: Dr. Duffing is not paneled with any insurance companies and is considered an out-of-network provider. This means that if your insurance carrier offers out-of-network mental health benefits, you may be able to obtain partial reimbursement for your out-of-pocket expenses. Reimbursement rates vary greatly, but may range from 50%-80% of the amount you pay. The first step is to call your insurance carrier and ask about this benefit. You may also ask the following questions in order to more fully understand this benefit:

  • Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?
  • How many sessions are covered?
  • What is the coverage amount or reimbursement rate for a Licensed Clinical Psychologist?
  • What is my deductible?
  • Have I met my deductible for this year, and if not, how much do I have to spend before I meet my deductible?
  • Are there any restrictions I should be aware of?
  • What steps will I need to take in order to get reimbursed?

Question: What do I do if I am in crisis and need to speak with someone right now?

Answer: If you are experiencing an emergency, you should call the crisis line, visit your local emergency room, or call 9-1-1. Thriving Life Psychological Services, PLLC does not offer crisis services and cannot guarantee immediate availability.
